Glossary of terms for Air Conditioners

Cooling Capacity

Cooling Capacity is the cooling power of a central air conditioner and it's usually measured in BTU/h (British Thermal Units per hour). BTU/h measures the amount of heat an air conditioning unit can remove from the room, for air conditioners it usually is between 5000 and 30000 BTU/h.

Heating Capacity

Heating Capacity is the heating power of a central air conditioner and it is most commonly measured in BTU/h (British Thermal Units per hour). BTU/h measures the amount of heat required to raise or lower the temperature of a pound of water by a single degree Fahrenheit, and for air room conditioners it usually is 5000-30000 BTU/h.

Energy Class (cooling)

Energy Class represents the energy efficiency of the appliance; it’s rated with the help of a set of energy efficiency classes from A to G, A being the most effective and G the least efficient.

Remote Control

Remote Controls for air conditioners are usually small wireless handheld objects with an array of buttons for adjusting various settings such as: operation mode (automatic, refrigeration, heat, dehumidification, wind), temperature setting, temperature fluctuation, sensor switch, wind speed (automatic, high, middle, low), fan flap control, onset timer, offset timer, energy saving or sleeping mode.

Air filter

An Air Filter is a device which removes solid particulates such as dust, pollen, mold, and bacteria from the air.
