The Gritty feels most at home on vertical rock, ice and snow. It's lightweight and compact, but roomy and gear-friendly enough for the two-day, alpine-style push. An ingenious strap system down the front with Hypalon® patch fabric secures ice tools and crampons and has accessory lash points. Lightweight, removable aluminum stays contour and stabilize a heavy load; the removable foam pad may be used as a bivy seat. The differential-cut, double-weave, ShiftLayer nylon fabric combines a baselayer sewn under tension with a floating top layer to absorb friction and reduce abrasion (in the way that liner socks reduce blisters). A climbing rope can be stowed neatly under the lid. The Autofit harness allows quick adjustments to the stretch-woven, molded-foam shoulder straps. A split waistbelt stabilizes the load over the lower back and hips. A hydration pocket with hidden tunnels keep tubes out of the way; compression straps stabilize the hydration bladder.
