Copper Enamel Necklace Matisse Pendant Patritoic Colors Vintage 1950s

"This 1950s vintage solid copper pendant is finished in Patriotic pools of Red, White and, Cobalt and Light Blue enamels. This pendant was made by Matisse in the 1950s and it is a rare prototype design that was never mass produced. In 10 years of collecting Matisse jewelry, I have only seen one other pendant like this. The pendant is an abstract amoeba shape and the enamels are gorgeous. The shape was later named Free Form, but the Patriotic colors were not produced in that line. It is medium in size and measures 2"" long x 1 1/4"" wide. The pendant is not signed, but Im 100% certain it is Matisse. The heavy silver metal chain is probably not original to the necklace, but it is also an old style from the 1950s. The chain is weighty and is 28"" long. The enamels are perfect with no chips, crazing or cracks and retain their high gloss shine. The back of the pendant has some significant copper wear - which is a good thing in a way. If you knew Matisse jewelry, you know that the backs of their copper jewelry is very perfect and finished with their patented clear coat. This necklace is obviously and early prototype because the clear coat finish was not perfected yet ! The age of this piece is evident! A really super vintage patriotic piece !"
