"The first time I picked up this pendant and held it in my hand, I was awestruck. I have never seen a crystal pendant this large ! This is a German made lead crystal heart from the late 1950s or early 1960s. Im certain that very few were ever made and it was probably a limited commerative offer. The heart looks like it is carved to the untrained eye, but it is actually mold pressed with two different patterns on the front and back, so you can have two different looks depending on how you wear it. The pendant is thick and heavy lead crystal and lead crystal does not give off rainbow reflections of light. The heart is totally clear so it will look great on any colored background. The front of the pendant has an elongated scooped out oval in the center and two beveled lines that form a U shape around the recessed oval center. Looking at the front, you can see the radiating star burst impressed beveled lines on the back. The back also has a scooped out oval in the center. Kind of interesting, because when you hold this piece, your first instinct is to run your index finger up and down the scooped out area, like a touch stone. The heart is a nice piece to fondle, like Harry Winston used to do only he carried around massive diamonds in his pocket. The heart measures 2"" long with the bail and is 1 1/2"" wide and a 1/4"" thick. The old original bail looks to be sterling, and the bail is a very substantial piece that was custom made for the weight of the heart. The 28"" silver flat box link chain also looks to be sterling but it is not signed. You dont have to be in love with the chain. You can string this pendant on a black or white silk cord or a thin metallic ribbon and it will be gorgeous too. The pendant is in pristine condition with no scratches or chips - not even when viewed under high magnification. How heavy is this pendant ? it is a whopping 26 grams."
