Milk Glass Necklace w Earrings French Twist Hand Sewn 1930s

"This is my favorite style of RARE old milk glass necklaces. This 1920-1930 era hand made design is a style that is rarely seen because it took an exhausting amount of time to make! The small round milk glass beads are French Gripoix glass and they have an opalescent quality and a slight blue-grey tint. This is real old milk glass, that does not have a bright shiny white look, like milk glass from the 1940s thru the 1960s. The beads are wound beads, each hand made, each slightly different in shape and size, yet they are very uniform overall. How was this necklace made ? The design is called Twisted Rope and it involves multiply strings of beads, 5 strands of 4 mm beads in this case, sewn by hand to a central rope core, while twisting the strands as they are sewn. Each group of five beads, one from each strand, is sewn together all along the core in the center. You cant see the core, because it is really just a few strands of cotton cord, but you can see in person how each strand is sewn to the other. It is really mind boggling to comprehend just how difficult it was to sew this design together so perfectly! The necklace is in spectacular condition with no damage, no missing or chipped beads, and no dirt or real signs of true age. It measures 24"" long and the twist or diameter is 1/2"" around. The necklace has the ordinal 1920-1930 French screw type brass barrel clasp. The necklace is not signed - but the origin of the glass is unmistakable, as old French Gripoix glass is something I cherish! The earrings are a bonus pair - not married to the necklace. The glass is pure white milk glass, and the glass is old as well. The earrings are a long dangle style and the tear drop beads are slender and about 1"" long. The earrings have brass screw backs, and from top to bottom they are almost 1 1/2"" long. The earrings are in great shape as well and date from the 1930-940 era."
