Moroccan Silver Necklace Agate Heart w Ethnic Handmade Beads

"When I traded for this necklace in Tunisia in the 1970s, I was fascinated by the piece because it was all hand made. The light brown and white agate heart is a natural shape and is polished to a high luster. It is heavy and set in a silver beaded metal bezel that is about 1/2"" deep. The necklace is made of silver metal beads the are made like washers you would use for a bolt and nut. The necklace also has 10 fan shaped paddles that are hand cut and pattern stamped. This silver metal is a very old technique. It is iron the has been dipped in nickel, and in many spots along the chain, the rusty iron shows through the nickel. The beads are strung on heavy black cotton cord. If you look at the back of the pendant, you can also see that the bail is hand made and hand soldered. This necklace is not a polished glitzy piece. It has an old world look and feel and was made with what materials were available to the artist. The pendant measures 1 1/4"" long and the chain is 16"" long."
