Spider Web Pin Black Glass Halloween Brooch Vintage 1950s

"Old Spider Web theme brooches are a very rare find. There were a few styles made in the 1950's, and they were a throw back to the Art Nouveau error of spooky, devil like jewelry. The limited production of these designs also coincides with Halloween, when in the 1950's, this occasion was becoming more popular as costume parties, and trick or treating gained momentum. Remember that at this time, there were no mass produced costumes or decorations and Halloween theme items first started in the manufacturing of costume jewelry. This old pot metal spider web brooch is black Japanned pot metal. The branching webs are convex and tiered giving this piece a nice 3D effect. Some of the metal bars are twisted metal, and some are flat. The three oval and convex stones in the center are black glass. Not sure if these are supposed to be eggs or what, but they do add a rather creepy touch. The brooch also has a flared ribbon of black rhinestone chatons. The brooch is all original with all stones present and in fine condition. The brooch has the original fine working safety clasp on the back and is not signed. There is some light wear to the black enamel on the back only. It measures 1 3/4"" wide. I also have some other older Halloween jewelry here in my shop.
